space.template.Creating a Thesis

These were used in my ELA placement as formative assessment when students were beginning to work on their LDC papers. Breaking down the different parts of their paper first and then talking about the purpose and providing an example of a thesis paper seemed to help students make sense of what was being asked of them. They were to write about one of the Ancient Greek myths we had read in class and choose a moral from one of these myths to write about. As these students had never written an LDC or extended response like this, the idea of a thesis statement seemed a little daunting. Having this graphic organizer and the "funnel" example helped them to break this down to be less intimidating and see the parts that went into creating their paper and, more specifically their thesis statement
